Kuro5hin has an interesting thought-provoker about the qualities of a good URL. I've thought about this one often, especially today since I'm analysing logs produced by Weblogic Commerce Server, and the URLs are very long and not very nice (but at least nicer than those produced by monstrosities like WebCrossing). The piece starts promisingly but doesn't last long. However, there are some interesting discussions in the forum, along with a links to Jakob Nielsen's piece on the subject and Tim Berners-Lee's thoughts too.

BEA Systems - 2001 Press Releases: BEA Makes Delivery and Management of Personalized Web Content Easier Through Expanded Partnerships and Integration is the actual title of that press release. Look at all those caps. Wow. Anyway, the point is that loads of CMS producers now have easy integration to BEA Personalisation Server. It's not hugely surprising, as all that's required for integration is a couple of JDBC-happy EJBs. And I'm not sure if we're even interested in going with Personalisation Server anyway, since we're trying to replace that layer (along with Commerce Server) with our own code. The main use for me is that it gives me more CMS names to check out. Slog slog slog.

Up until now, OLE DB + OLAP was the most common way of connecting to data warehouses for analysis. MS are now proposing XML for Analysis, which uses their let's-ram-it-into-everything SOAP protocol. Still, it's cross-platform now.

Anyone remember LifeStreams? Scopeware is the commercial manifestation of the 5-year-old MIT project. Basically, it's new, interesting interfaces for information/document management. The LifeStore idea looks nice too.
